2023 Annual Dinner - In Planning Stage.

In addition to announcing and recognizing the CCPA Volunteer of the Year and  CCPA Preservationist of the Year, the membership will elect our board of officers for 2023.

2018 Volunteer of the Year
​Mrs. Janet Dye

Janet is a trustee of the CCPA Board and does a lot of behind-the-scenes work for the Historic Home & Garden Tour.  One of her major roles is at the very start of planning for each year’s tour.  For the past 20 years, Janet has sought out homes and approached homeowners asking if they would agree to have their homes on the tour.  This involved knocking on many front doors in Champaign County and convincing homeowners to include their homes on the tour.  If it weren’t for Janet’s efforts, the CCPA would not be able to present its Home & Garden tours.

2018 Preservationist of the Year
​Mr. Jason and Dr. Jessica Kile

​The Kiles have been in the Champaign County area for six years.  Dr. Kile started her dental practice in Mechanicsburg in 2012 at Darby Dental Smiles.  In 2017, she and Jason purchased the structure at 1052 S. Main Street in Urbana and opened Urbana Dental Smiles.

The Main Street structure had been for sale for over a year, and luckily, the Kiles became the new owners.  Through the years it has served many purposes, starting out as a single-family residence in the early 1900s, used by masonic organizations, serving as a nursing home, serving as the county’s temporary court house, and being used as office space before Jason and Jessica purchased the property.

​The Kiles wanted to maintain as much of the original structure as possible while also configuring the space to accommodate a dental practice that afforded privacy and comfort to their patents.  They used many local businesses to perform the restoration work.  The Kiles were able to maintain the original trim, doors, transom windows, fireplace, and tile-work in the bathrooms.  They also did extensive landscaping to spruce up the curb appeal.  We thank Jason and Jessica Kiles for preserving this Champaign County historic structure.
